3/30/2014

What follows is three different songs that relate to our current Sermon topic of Trust.  Notice that trust is before obey in each song writer's lyrics.

I was very moved and motivated by everything that occurred at church yesterday. We have such a gift in our church body. We all should pray for and give thanks to our God for what we have in this. It is truly a gift from God that we have a pastor that stays so highly motivated each week as does everyone else involved, our elders, Sunday school teachers, Dan and the praise team, Carolyn and the choir, and more. The praise team closed the service with a hymn that has come to be one of my favorites, It is well with my soul. Thank you Dan and the "kids"! The kids this week were, J the birthday girl, Haley, Jacey, Sue, Joseph and his friend Les Paul, and

I have one thing concerning trust that I would like to share. A couple of months ago at prayer meeting the guys asked me how things went when I went to get the results of my last scan. The results were better than I anything I expected and I felt so humbled and even humiliated by this huge helping of God's grace. I now understood some of the comments of Paul Tripp. I shared how I wasn't worried like I used to be prior to getting these test results every three months. Larry was sitting there smiling and said, "so then any news would be good news"! I said yes, but it made me uneasy. It was convicting. I thought about it a lot and even more yesterday. Did I answer Larry truthfully? Was it Larry or God speaking through him that asked the question? I am at peace with saying that any news will be good news with future test results. God has been with me in all the up times and down times I've experienced these last five years, from the first bad test when I became a total wreck with no hope to where I am now. He even showed me how things can be in what we might consider to be a worst case scenario. It's when I was spending some time with a cancer patient named Eric who was near his end with his battle with cancer. He had just starting with hospice care at home. As I was sitting there thinking all his material possessions were of no value to him anymore. His things of value were his pajamas, hospital bed and of course his friends and family. Then Eric turned to me and smiled and said something like this, Verne, you know I am just so thankful that I had this chance in life and now I to know where I am going. He was completely trusting in God. He was at peace and happy about it.This was such a powerful moment in my life, I know now that if this becomes my plight I can meet it like Eric did. God will be there with me with something so much better so close at hand!

amen brother! when we can truly grab hold of the truth found in 2
2 Corinthians chapter 5 , we can have complete trust and peace in our Lord!

English Standard Version (ESV)

Our Heavenly Dwelling

5 For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling, 3 if indeed by putting it on[a] we may not be found naked. 4 For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened—not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. 5 He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.

6 So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, 7 for we walk by faith, not by sight. 8 Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. 9 So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please Him.
